7. Sentence structure

One recurrent problem that we often come across in editing and proofreading is what we call run-on sentences...i.e. sentences are excessively long.

Example:

Original: The scene of the crime and any data connected with the crime are able to supply pointers regarding suspects’ identities, assistance in the assessment of scenarios, help in the planning of avoidance or detention procedures, and to assist in the attainment of an improved comprehension of environmental features that may have a link with the crime.

Amended: The scene of the crime and any data connected with the crime are able to supply pointers regarding suspects’ identities and assist in the assessment of scenarios. Both factors also help in the planning of avoidance or detention procedures, as well as in the attainment of an improved comprehension of environmental features that may have a link with the crime.

Further Example:

Original: I was educated at London University where I obtained a first-class honours degree in English then I studied at Manchester University where I obtained a master’s degree then I went to Oxford University where I was awarded a PhD for research into the development of the English language from medieval times up to the present day and now I am looking to conduct further research in how English has developed in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

My intention now is to conduct further research into how English has developed in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

8. Comprehensibility

We will help ensure your written manuscript is digestible and comprehensible in a way that would attract readers, rather than turn them off.

Original: I hope you accept the job offer and I think you will find us a good firm to work for and that you will tell me you want the job, I think you will like it.

Edited: I hope you accept this position as I am confident you will settle into our company.

9. Clarity of ideas

As part of our service, we also help you get your ideas and themes across to readers in a clear and unequivocal manner.

Example:

Original: This cover letter explains why I want the job. I want to use my financial qualifications in work.

Edited: I believe that my financial qualifications will be useful if I am offered this post.

10. Organisation

We also assist professionals and individuals with the organisation of their written copy and manuscript. We offer suggestions on how better organisation can be achieved.

What else do we do?

We offer professionals and individuals a free sample option, whereby we will do any 300 words of your choice of the written manuscript, without no obligation whatsoever. You can request them to be proofread, edited, or substantively copy-edited. Our aim is to give you a good idea about our quality of service to help you make a decision.

As the style and language capability differ from one editor to another, we will get your sample done by two different editors. This is to give you more choice.

We have several editors working for us. So, if you wish your sample done by more than two editors, we can do so, but anything above two will be charged at the normal rate.

Who are we?

The Ultimate Proofreader is a provider of proofreading services & editing services & paraphrasing services based near London, UK.

For many years, we have been assisting PhD students, academics, book authors, professionals and businesses with proofreading services of the highest quality.

We strongly believe in our name, as we provide immaculate English editing and proofreading services of a quality and standard that can hardly be matched by any other service provider.

As a proofreading services UK provider, we have come to exist and thrive, fully aware that, if we do not deliver high-quality English language correction and improvement services, we would not stand an opportunity in this highly competitive market of proofreading services. That is why, delivering services of an excellent quality has been our first guiding principle.

Our second guiding principle is affordability. We are equally aware that, if the top-quality editing and proofreading services that we deliver to clients in the UK are highly priced, we would be beaten by other service providers.

So, we have been determined to provide outstanding, yet affordable and reasonably priced, services. For instance, we appreciate how students often run a tight budget, especially with the high cost of education in the UK.

We have therefore priced our different proofreading services in a way that would make them accessible to all students. For professionals, businesses and book authors, we also offer highly competitive rates, particularly on large assignments. The third guiding principle we have been working to is to deliver our excellent, affordable proofreading services in a timely fashion.

Although we try our best to complete assignments within fast turnaround times, we never give priority to speed over quality. For us, priority always comes first. Unlike other text editing and proofreading service providers, our proofreaders and editors may spend one or even two hours on a single page to correct, improve and clarify the text.

We do not work on an hourly basis; we give every document we receive all the time and care it needs, no matter how much time or effort we put into it. Our ultimate goal is to produce a text that is proofread or edited to a high standard that would help students, academics, book authors, professionals or businesses to achieve their desired results.

Having said that, we still strive to meet orders with tight deadlines by making sure that we have proofreaders and editors available 24/7, ready to step in when needed. The Ultimate Proofreader prides itself on having a very experienced team of proofreaders and editors who help us deliver those sterling proofreading services to our UK clients.

We are also a very friendly secure proofreading service UK provider, and are always happy to interact with our clients, whether before, during or after the completion of their assignments. We also believe that our task goes beyond the mere improvement of the language and style of writing to an informative, insightful, and educational service to academics and students.

For this reason, we provide feedback, as appropriate, on the areas of language that need to be worked on. Additionally, we have created a blog on our website that is purely dedicated to language-related matters.

Our aim is to help academics and students, particularly non-native speakers, to learn and improve their knowledge about the use of the English language for academic purposes. We can be reached by email (info@ultimateproofreader.co.uk) or by phone (07717750188), around-the-clock.
